Chinese Tangram Puzzle
This is 19th-century Chinese Tangram carved of ivory. Actually the lid of the box is the most intricately carved. It slides to the right and allows the tangram to be placed in two layers. In other words, the square tangram can be divided into 2 smaller squares. Traditionally the seven pieces can be formed into many various shapes. This puzzle swept the world in the early 1800's and there have been many challenging shapes devised for it. They are published in many various places, so I have just put up some rarer designs from Denmark for a different tangram-like puzzle here so that you can get the idea if you are not familiar with this type of puzzle.
